TravelMaster combines all your bus, tram and train journeys into one easy to use low-cost ticket

How to get your Smartcard

You can get a TravelMaster Smartcard very easily, just go to an Interchange and use one of the Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) to get your first card and ticket. They are available 24 hours a day; all take credit and debit cards and some machines take cash*.

The Ticket Vending Machines are simple to use – just follow the onscreen instructions and you will be ready to travel very quickly.

If you are lucky enough to be able to use one of our discounted products and have received your personalised smartcard in the post, you MUST get your first ticket from one of the TVMs; if you don’t then you will not be able to enjoy the reduced price travel.

* Machines that take cash are located at Barnsley, Doncaster, Meadowhall, Rotherham and Sheffield Interchanges.

How to use your Smartcard

It's easy to use your new TravelMaster smartcard:

  • Most buses have fixed readers linked to, or part of, the driver's ticket machine and tram conductors have portable readers. Scan your smartcard on the card reader and let the driver or conductor see your counterpart and if all is well, sit down and enjoy the journey.

  • You must ALWAYS have both the counterpart and smartcard on buses and trams as neither is valid without the other. You will be charged for the journey whatever the circumstances if you do not have both.

  • On a train show the guard your smartcard and the counterpart and they will be checked. If the two match carry on enjoying your journey.

Just scan it against a driver or tram conductor's ticket machine in order to use.

The Counterpart

Keep this with your smartcard as it isn't valid without it. You'll also need it to travel on trains and non-smart equipped buses. So keep it safe.

TravelMaster (Gold) Annual

If you have an Annual TravelMaster you will have a gold coloured smartcard with your photograph, details of the product and the expiry date printed on its face. Just scan this or show it to the guard on the train; You do not need a counterpart with this version.
