Using TravelMaster Products on First Buses New Ticket Machines

17 November 2017

Between the 12th & 19th November 2017 First South Yorkshire will be replacing the Electronic Ticket Machines used to sell and validate tickets on board their buses.

As a result there will be some changes to how TravelMaster customers use and buy their products on board First Services and to how they use products purchased on First buses on board other operators.

CityBus, CityWide, BConnect, DonConnect, RConnect, SYConnect & SYConnect+

Day Products

Where a customer already has a smart-card they shouldn’t expect to see any difference in how they buy or use their product. Day tickets will be laoded to them as they are already.

Where a customer doesn’t have a smart-card First will issue a paper ticket as they do now. However, these paper tickets will now carry a QR code which can be scanned when boarding a First bus. On all over services customers should just show the paper ticket to the driver/conductor as they do now.

7 Day Products

These will continue to be sold in the same way they are now, loaded to a smartcard on-board or via Vending Machine, and customers shouldn’t expect to see any difference in how they buy and use them as a result of this change.

28 Day products

These will continue to be sold in the same way they are now, loaded to a smart-card  via Vending Machine, and customers shouldn’t expect to see any difference in how they buy and use them as a result of this change.

GetAbout & GetAbout+

Day & 7 Day GetAbout & GetAbout+ will now be loaded onto valid MegaTravel or 16-18 Travel passes on board First buses. Customers will now need to scan these to use them when they board a service like our standard smart cards.

All other operators will continue to issue the Day & 7 Day products as paper tickets which should be shown to drivers and conductors as they are now. We are working closely to implement smart GetAbout products on other operators and through vending Machines.

All young people over the age of 11 will need to have a valid MegaTravel or 16-18 Travelpass in order to purchase and use a GetAbout ticket. We do not require that Under-11s need to have a MegaTravel in order to purchase the ticket.

Scratchcards

Whilst First are withdrawing their own scratchcards TravelMaster will continue to issue scratchcards for some Day & 7 Day tickets in certain circumstances. These remain valid for travel on all services and should be shown to a driver/conductor as they are now.
