South Yorkshire’s Transport Operators Launch Campaign to Drive Awareness of Region’s Value for Money Smart Ticketing

PASSENGERS are being encouraged to ‘be a Master of Travel’ from November as TravelMaster, the organisation responsible for smart multi-operator ticketing in South Yorkshire, delivers an extensive promotional campaign to drive awareness of the region’s value for money smart transport tickets alongside new simple and easy ways to buy them.
The ‘Masters of Travel’ campaign is being delivered to promote awareness of TravelMaster Tickets as a flexible and value for money way to easily access public transport within the region; this is alongside promoting their purchase off-vehicle before travelling to improve service reliability and customer experience.
2019 has seen significant development and investment in TravelMaster’s off-vehicle retail offer. This included the launch of an eCommerce system in April enabling customers to buy their tickets online and download them to a Smartcard using NFC-enabled Smartphones. This will be added to in the new year with the introduction of an enhanced network of Payzone outlets. This will provide customers without access to the internet or who want to pay by cash with the ability to purchase tickets from over 900 convenience stores and post offices in the region.
Launching the campaign at the Nunnery Square Supertram Depot on the 13th November Matt Smallwood, Director & General Manager of TravelMaster, said;
“TravelMaster is an industry leading example of transport operators coming together collaboratively to the benefit of passengers. The range of tickets we offer are amongst the lowest priced in the UK and provide a simple, flexible and integrated way for people to travel across all operators and modes in South Yorkshire.
We now have over 450,000 smartcards in circulation with passengers making more than 17 Million journeys a year with them. This campaign is the largest we’ve delivered and with it we will drive even greater awareness of tickets that cost less than they did 5 and encourage even more people to use our simple to buy integrated tickets to easily access public transport in South Yorkshire.”
The campaign will initially see adverts appear on 115 buses and 12 trams. This will be followed into 2020 with video advertising on YouTube, radio adverts on local stations and extensive digital advertising through Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. All of which has been designed by creative agency ‘OurAgency in the North’ to promote great value ticketing to potential transport users and promote the convenience of off-vehicle purchase to existing customers.
TravelMaster is owned by the region’s transport operators and provides passengers with simple to use smart tickets valid on all services regardless of the company that runs them. Since 2013 it has been at the forefront of delivering smart integrated ticketing in the UK outside of London. South Yorkshire was the first area to offer smart multi-operator tickets, the first to sell smart tickets on board services and most recently was one of the first places in the world offering iPhone compatibility for smart cards.
